SAT Subject Tests
SAT Subject Tests are subject specific, multiple choice tests required or recommended for admissions into selective colleges. They are each one hour long and scored on a scale of 800.
How many tests can I take? What subjects are offered?
Most students take two or three subject tests. There are tests in literature, math, biology, physics, chemistry, US history, world history, Spanish, French, German, Latin, Italian, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.
Can I only take these tests during my junior or senior year?
SAT Subject Tests can be taken by students in ANY year of high school. It is best to take the test in conjunction with a course that the student excels in. For example, if you take chemistry as a sophomore, that year may be the best year to take that SAT Subject Test. If you take an AP course in a subject, it’s an even better time to take the subject test.
What time of year can I take the test?
SAT Subject Tests are offered every date the SAT is offered, except the March date. May or June is the best time for most students to take these tests since that overlaps with studying for finals or AP exams on the same content. Students can take one, two, or three tests on a single test date.
Do I need tutoring?
There’s no way to know until you take a pre-test. Most schools are looking for a score of 700 or above. We offer pre-tests for most of the SAT Subject tests. We can create tutoring plans both for students who need a review of the material and for students who need re-teaching of the material.
